The Safety Coordinator (LAX) is responsible for supporting the administration of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) regulatory compliance program for Vanderlande North America at the LAX airport, including the coordination of required documentation, reporting, and field-level implementation activities. The position also provides support for Workers’ Compensation case documentation and tracking.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with site leadership and operations teams to implement Vanderlande and LAX HSE requirements and to reinforce a proactive safety culture.
Conduct and document routine site inspections and audits; identify hazards and at-risk conditions; and ensure corrective actions are assigned, implemented, and closed in a timely manner.
Maintain HSE records and regulatory compliance documentation, including inspection reports, training records, incident files, OSHA logs, and program documentation.
Deliver toolbox talks, safety communications, and targeted training initiatives; support PPE requirements and emergency preparedness activities, as applicable.
Chair the site safety committee, including scheduling, agenda development, meeting minutes, and action-item tracking.
Administer VelocityEHS (incident reporting, investigations, inspections/audits, and corrective actions); ensure data integrity, trend analysis, and timely closure of action items.
Support incident response and reporting by coordinating required notifications, ensuring First Reports of Injury are completed, and assisting with Workers’ Compensation documentation and tracking.
Evaluate trends associated with inspections, incidents, near misses, and observations, and recommend preventive controls and continuous improvement opportunities.
Monitor inspection and audit findings, corrective action status, and required training completion; maintain trackers and provide routine status updates to site leadership.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Technology or related fields.
5+ years of experience with normal business-related software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint and EHS management software (e.g., VelocityEHS).
Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including one of the following: OSHA 501, 510, 511 / ASP
Experience managing a process or procedure requiring a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.
Must hold a valid driver’s license
Other Requirements:
Ability to pass 10-year background checks to the extent required by TSA and airport authorities is required.
Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport ID Badge/ CBP Seal.
Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport issued driver’s permit
Preferred qualifications:
Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. With the expectation to be in a 24/7 operation
Reports to: Senior QHSE Program Manager (Airport)
Travel:
This position might require up to 10% international travel for training/education.

The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently (26% to 74%) required to climb; reach; sit; and access confined spaces that require kneeling, crawling, and other positions that require physical maneuvering. The employee is constantly (75% or more) required to move and lift objects (luggage bags, stack of tubs, tools, equipment, parts, etc.) of up to 50lbs; bend/twist; stoop; stand; walk; push-pull. The employee is occasionally (up to 25% of the time) required to carry and transfer up to between 50 and 120lbs.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud due to aircraft engines and equipment. Employee works in the secured baggage handling area, repair station, airfield, office environment and other areas within the airport. They often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is a full-time, exempt position, eligible to receive a salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Salary range: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00
