This posting intends to fill two (2) regular full-time positions, and establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future limited-term and/or regular full-time positions over the next two (2) years.
As a Safety Coordinator at Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) you will help us reach our health and safety goals leading to World-Class safety. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert for managing our Behavior-Based Safety process. You’ll provide leadership updates, while supporting field forces and office professionals positively shaping and reinforcing commitment to safe behaviors. You’ll directly lead steering committees, observer teams, complete safety observations, development, implementation, and all process related training, to protect the health, wellness, and safety of our employees.
Coordinates the development, implementation and promotion of the SMUD Safety programs (30%); and promotes SMUD behavior-based safety process and related activities to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses (70%).
Serves as a technical or functional expert or consultant providing expertise and/or direction in one or more areas of a professional discipline and assumes responsibility of resolving complex problems and overseeing complex projects. May also serve in a lead role and assist in planning, coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring, and evaluating the work results in assigned area and in selecting, training, motivating, evaluating, and developing personnel. Will serve a lead role in monitoring process, updating management on status, diagnosis of areas of concern, coordination with consultant, and support of steering committees.
Behavior-based safety process and management theories; techniques and concepts related to teamwork; processes and work activities performed in energy delivery and customer services; procedures and practices for monitoring processes and program/project management; methods and techniques for exercising oversight; methods for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling work activities; methods and techniques for report preparation and writing; basic computer fundamentals and applications; methods and techniques for record keeping; safety policies, practices and procedures; English grammar, punctuation and vocabulary standards.
Coordinate work of behavior-based safety committees with other SMUD activities; provide technical guidance to committees regarding behavioral accident prevention process; motivate and mentor others in behavioral accident prevent process; recognize red flags in behavioral process and assist in development of plans to address identified problem(s) and facilitate resolutions; serve as liaison with technical experts and management to assist steering committees; negotiate and resolve conflicts; provide success and guidance feedback to facilitators; build relationships with different levels of the organization; identify and assess problems and recommend solutions; develop and present oral presentations; express ideas/facts clearly and concisely one-on-one or to groups verbally and/or in writing; communicate effectively to all levels of organization; establish and maintain effective working relationships internally/externally.

This role will be an on-site role that will require being in person at one of SMUD's campuses daily to complete work tasks.
