
About the Work Unit
Vanderbilt University Public Safety (VUPS) is led by the Office of the Chief of Police in the Division of Administration. VUPS is a dedicated team of over 400 professionals united by a shared commitment to fostering a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all in the Vanderbilt community. Organized into several specialized units, our department includes commissioned officers, security professionals, and skilled administrative staff, all working collaboratively to uphold the highest standards of community-based policing

Supervisory Relationships
The Safety and Security Supervisor is responsible for the assigned Safety and Security personnel during shift operations. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Safety and Security Manager(s) as assigned, and the Safety and Security Director.
Education and Certifications
Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and have a minimum of three (3) years of proven experience as a security officer or equivalent role, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Experience and Skills
Proven ability to supervise and guide staff, develop personnel skills, provide constructive feedback, and handle disciplinary issues. Must exhibit the willingness and ability to make timely, sound, fact-based decisions and accept responsibility.
Must remain calm and objective during stressful or unpleasant situations, demonstrating self-restraint in challenging circumstances.
Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication and public speaking skills. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, enforcement officials, and diverse university/medical center constituencies (students, faculty, staff, parents).
Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated problem-solving skills are essential. Must be able to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks independently.
Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer programs is preferred.
