About The Project

At John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in far-north Queensland (270km NW of Townsville).

The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern and waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and return water back to the upper reservoir during off peak periods.

About the role

As a Safety Advisor you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and contractors. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining effective safety management systems, conducting regular inspections and audits, and providing expert advice on safety procedures and regulations.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with project teams to identify and mitigate potential hazards, develop and deliver safety training programs, and monitor compliance with safety standards. You will also investigate incidents and accidents, provide recommendations for improvement, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety culture.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safety legislation and best practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. You will have a proactive approach to safety, be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

You Will Need:

Diploma Safety in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
Experience within the Construction Industry
Experience in HSE management techniques and tools
The ability to thrive in a dynamic and busy environment
Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
Advanced skills in relevant computer software packages; use of basic functions of word processing, spread sheet and email software
Ability to conduct and interpret audits and reviews
