Job Description

St. Athanasius Catholic Church, located in Curtis Bay, seeks candidates for a Sacristan The Sacristan is responsible for the overall management of the sacristy: including, overseeing preparations for liturgical celebrations, the day-to-day care and maintenance of liturgical vessels, vestments, church furnishings and decorative objects, and the ordering of supplies. This is a part-time position, working 10 weekly hours, including Sundays

Essential Functions

  • Leads the preparation of liturgical celebrations and ensures part-time and junior sacristans have what is needed for Masses they coordinate.
  • Maintains good order in the sacristy.
  • Orders supplies and candles for the church.
  • Arranges books and binders for weekend Mass.
  • Trained to operate sound system.
  • Coordinates with office staff, funeral homes, and bereavement ministry for funeral planning.
  • Locks church after worshipers have departed.
  • Coordinates with the maintenance department to resolve maintenance needs, including proper cleaning and care of the building and furnishings.

Position Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • General knowledge of the Catholic Church; including sacraments.
  • Knowledge of the parts of Mass or willingness to learn and be an integral part of Mass.
  • Basic level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Dependable.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to project a courteous, warm, and welcoming image.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Pay Rate: $15.00, Hourly
