NOTICE OF VACANCY

Position: General Maintenance / Plumber

Department: Maintenance & Facilities

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Safety, Technology and Facilities

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Term: 240 Days

Salary: Pursuant to WV Code and Upshur County Schools salary schedule, Pay grade E or applicable classification

Job Summary

The General Maintenance / Plumber performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, plumbing repair, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and facility support duties across school district properties. The employee works independently and as part of the maintenance team to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant operation of district facilities and grounds.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular attendance and respond to assigned work orders.
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including water, drain, sewer, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing failures, leaks, water intrusion events, and facility emergencies.
  • Install, repair, and replace sinks, toilets, urinals, water heaters, faucets, piping, and associated plumbing infrastructure.
  • Assist with maintenance of HVAC, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, and other building systems as assigned.
  • Perform building repairs and general maintenance duties at all district facilities.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, environmental requirements, and district procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, inventories, inspections, and completed work orders.
  • Recommend equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for efficient operations.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, custodians, contractors, and maintenance personnel to address facility needs.
  • Operate district vehicles, lifts, tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist with snow removal, grounds maintenance, trenching, and other facility support activities.
  • Participate in training and obtain certifications deemed necessary by the district.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Safety, Technology, and Facilities or designee.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of required state service personnel testing; valid West Virginia driver's license. Demonstrated experience in plumbing, maintenance, construction, facilities operations, or a related trade preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, lifting up to 75 pounds, operating equipment, and working indoors and outdoors under varying environmental conditions.
