BROOKE COUNTY SCHOOLS

POSITION VACANCY POSTING #S-1475

POSITION TITLE: Substitute Custodian - 26/27SY

LOCATION: Brooke County Schools, to be called as needed

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to understand written or verbal instructions and must possess sufficient mathematical skills to make proper dilutions and mixtures for cleaning compounds. High school diploma, or its equivalent (GED), required, and achieve a passing score on the WV State Competency Test for Custodian. This job is classified as requiring a medium to heavy work capacity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Have building prepared and ready for daily use including unlocking doors, appropriate temperature, proper lighting, etc.
  • Daily cleans, sweeps, dusts, mops and buffs all areas of the building assigned.
  • Daily cleans and sanitizes all plumbing fixtures and drinking fountains.
  • Daily cleans unusual spills on demand.
  • Daily cleans carpeted areas with vacuum cleaner or scrubbing machine, as appropriate.
  • Daily removes all waste and trash from the building and prepares it for proper disposal.
  • Washes windows and waxes floors on a regularly scheduled basis or when requested.
  • Sweeps sidewalks and removes debris from grounds as required.
  • Cleans and maintains grounds for proper appearance and safety, including cutting grass and removing snow, when necessary, etc.
  • Performs general maintenance around the building, including such tasks as changing light bulbs, making furniture and equipment repairs or adjustments, painting, oiling motors, adjusting fan belts, etc.
  • Daily use of mechanical devices to assist in lifting, i.e., creepers, dollies, nylon strips, desks/computer table lifts etc.
  • Performs duties requiring climbing ladders and stairs
  • Performs duties requiring kneeling, bending, lifting and reaching.
  • Insures that unnecessary lights are turned off to conserve electricity.
  • Insures that building is securely locked.
  • Assists in ordering supplies and keeping record of custodial supplies.
  • Follows State Fire Marshal rules and regulations.
  • Have knowledge of the heating, ventilating, air conditioning system (HVAC), fire alarm, and water systems.
  • Follows county policy and procedure.
  • Maintains positive work attitude and habits.
  • Performs duties efficiently and productively.
  • Maintains and/or upgrades skills.
  • Promotes positive public communications.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by supervisor/principal.

Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
