
The Rx Refill Specialist - Access Center will address patient medication refill requests using approved specialty-specific medication refill protocols. This position will work with a variety of stakeholders and facilitate communication amongst patients, providers, and pharmacies to ensure closure to the refill request process.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Processes incoming phone and electronic patient medication refills requests using electronic health record, patient engagement tools and prescription refill platforms.
2. Engages patients in a polite, prompt and compassionate manner during all patient interactions.
3. Reviews medical records and specialty-specific prescription refill protocols to support filling of prescription when a refill request flags for review.
4. Utilizes defined escalatory workflows to notify prescribing provider of medication requests that have not met protocol criteria.
5. Facilitates correspondence with patients, providers, insurance companies and pharmacies as necessary to address medical refill requests.
6. Documents pertinent information in medical record and may notify patients of overdue visits and/or necessary screenings based on defined protocol.
7. Escalates medication questions or concerns to Supervisor, Rx Refill as necessary.
8. Collaboratively partners with other team members to promptly address patient requests and/or concerns that may originate in other settings (e.g., Access Center, practice operations, etc.).
9. Other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to 8 hours per day, 3 hours at a time. Consistent use of hands and fingers for typing, telephones, data entry, etc. Occasional twisting and turning. Uses upper extremities to lift and carry up to 15 pounds. Stoops, bends, and reaches above shoulder level to retrieve files. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision. Visual monotony when reading reports and reviewing computer screen.
EDUCATION:
High School graduate or equivalent.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
● Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician Certification, or Certified Medication Technician
Preferred:
● Two or more years' experience in a medical practice or pharmacy
