Job Description

Transporting costuming garments, shoes/feet, fabrics, tools, fixtures, boxes and accessories to park venue/greenroom locations, shoe repair shop, Entertainment warehouse and Fabrication, resort hotels, offsite event locations, Fabrication and any other off property location requesting costumes. Pick up of dirty laundry at the end of the day. Other duties include presetting costumes, assisting with floor duties at USF and IOA costuming locations and some laundry.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely drive costume vehicles including box trucks up to 24 ft in length with up to 26,000lb GVW, up to 10,000lb of payload to deliver costumes and related materials in a timely manner to offsite and onsite locations including: Costume Fabrication/Entertainment Warehouse, Creative Fabrication, UO venues/green rooms, costuming vendors such as Shoe Repair. Must be able to safely operate lift gates on box trucks and safely maneuver obstacles both backstage and onstage. To complete duties, the runner must be capable of driving any of the listed vehicles while adhering to rules of the road and adapting any traffic situation. Costume Vehicles include: golf carts, mini vans, cargo vans, and box trucks.
  • Responsible for carrying large costume bags, multiple costumes on hangers or in garment bags, pushing and navigating costume racks, bins and boxed costumes according to safety guidelines and proper lifting techniques.
  • Assists costume service area with costume presets, breakdown, washing and folding. Preset costumes for various characters in various locations taking note of costume appearance for show quality.
  • Compile written reports on daily tasks, client concerns and vehicle maintenance, including keeping track of fuel.
  • Interact with costume management, stage managers, assistant stage managers and coordinators to ensure needs are met.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ Years: Working with the public; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have experience driving a box truck up to 24 feet in length.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Clean driving record.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Must be able to lift costume pieces with no assistance up to 50lb.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull costume pieces with assistance up to 100lb.
  • Transporting costumes valued anywhere from $20,000 to $115,000 each costume.
