POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing and developing custom components, assemblies, and integrated systems for specialized fire apparatus. This role combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical, hands‑on problem solving to create reliable, high‑performance solutions tailored to unique customer requirements. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams, including electrical engineering, production, purchasing and sales, to ensure designs meet functional, safety, and regulatory standards. This position requires proficiency in 3D CAD, an understanding of vehicle systems, and the ability to take concepts from initial design through production support. The Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in delivering innovative, durable, and serviceable fire‑truck designs that support emergency responders in the field.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provide technical support for mechanical system design, development, and production support activities related to fire apparatus and heavy-duty vehicle platforms.
- Create, revise, develop, maintain, and ensure conformance to corporate, customer, and regulatory sub-system specifications and performance requirements of existing products.
- Initiates and implements integrated hardware and software solutions to meet your respective sub-system performance that improve value by increasing quality and performance or by reducing costs.
- Develops and monitors simulation, lab and field validation and test programs to assure performance. Gathers and analyzes data to monitor product and component performance.
- Participates in cross-functional teams to implement product and process improvements.
- Understand and apply vehicle regulatory requirements and standards, such as Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), etc., to ensure our product designs are compliant. May maintain regulatory agency approvals.
- Create and manage detail drawings and Bill of Materials.
- Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Sales & Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems
- Maintains contact with suppliers, with Purchasing, to evaluate new products as well as support and ensure parts received meet quality standards.
- Analyze and problem-solve design, production, and field issues to successful resolution.
- Develops and implements corrective action in accordance with QMS procedures.
- Review Quality Audit records and analyze customer returns to assess product conformance to specifications.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple assignments and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
- Prepares and presents project status reports.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.
