Job Description

Involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data. Designs and conducts research including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, and developing recommendations based on research findings. Prepares reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.

Specifically for this post, this individual will oversee the data collection process specific to research participants including serving as the primary contact for OB and working to ensure that data from a study focused on oral health and pregnancy (CHEER) is entered correctly, that enrollments are complete, and that compensation proceeds accordingly. The individual will work directly with PIs on data analyses and will serve as co-lead author on one or more manuscripts.

Department Overview:

The Department of Orofacial Sciences (OFS) at the UCSF School of Dentistry brings together several clinical disciplines including Craniofacial Anomalies, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, and Periodontology under one department engaged in cross-disciplinary clinical, teaching, and research activity, composed of several clinical disciplines including Craniofacial Anomalies, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, and Periodontology, engaging in cross-disciplinary clinical, teaching and research activities. Students and trainees in OFS gain broad exposure to oral disease diagnosis and treatment, developmental conditions, and craniofacial disorders, training across specialty clinics in oral medicine, oral pathology, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, and craniofacial anomalies, which serve as core sites for both patient care and teaching.

  • Oversee enrollment for the clinical RCT examining whether an oral health intervention impacts markers of periodontal disease.
  • Create and oversee the REDCap data system, including implementing updates as needed and overseeing analyses including writing and interpreting code and findings using SAS or equivalent software.
  • Oversee participant compensation and tracking, including managing the organization and disbursement of gift cards in partnership with department finance leads.
  • Organize and attend the weekly project meeting (online or in person) and required quarterly in-person meetings.
  • Participate in all related presentations and publications serving as analytic lead on all products that leverage clinical data

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of experience managing complex datasets and population-based study data
  • Experience creating and managing REDCap datasets within a clinical trial setting
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting clinical trial data to internal and external entities
  • Robust experience analyzing and reporting scientific data related to pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes
  • Able to conduct analyses in SAS (preferred) or a similar statistical platform
  • Thorough knowledge of the research function

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years in academic research
  • 3 or more years of experience working with pregnant populations
  • Experience writing and applying for grants from the NIH or similar funder
