General Description

The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) is seeking a dedicated Redwood RunMyJobs (RMJ) Administrator and Automation Engineer to serve as the primary owner and implementor of the platform. This individual will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing workload automation processes, while partnering with internal teams to support business-critical operations.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on day-to-day platform administration, job scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated workflows. Along with it, the person should enable users to design, build, and maintain infrastructures and systems that enable their organizations to collect, store, process, and analyze large volumes of data.

Other responsibilities may include coordinating or performing requested research and analyzing the work required for proposals, software, and system modifications, as well as new projects. Overseeing the analysis, designs, plans, diagrams, and verifying procedures for existing and proposed applications. Provides technical advice, assistance, and recommendations on matters related to programming.

Key Responsibilities

-Platform Administration & Operations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for RunMyJobs (RMJ)
  • Manage and maintain job schedules, workflows, and dependencies across systems
  • Administer, patch, and configure the Redwood RunMyJobs platform
  • Monitor job execution, alerts, and system performance to ensure reliability and SLA adherence
  • Troubleshoot job failures, performance issues, and system errors in a timely manner
  • Manage platform configurations, users, roles, and security settings, maintain up-to-date system configurations, apply security patches, and perform regular system updates

-Automation & Workflow Development

  • Design, build, and optimize automated workflows and job chains
  • Design, implement, and maintain batch schedules aligned with business and technical requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation
  • Define execution times, job priorities, and scheduling logic
  • Document troubleshooting steps, scheduling policies, and lessons learned
  • Monitor job execution status, resolve errors or delays, and ensure adherence to SLAs
  • Analyze and optimize batch job performance for efficient resource utilization
  • Support integration of RMJ with various enterprise applications and data sources
  • Develop and maintain documentation for workflows, processes, and configurations

-Integration & Technical Support

  • Work with internal applications, infrastructure, and data teams to support integrations
  • Configure and manage platform agents and connectivity across environments
  • Support file transfers, API-based integrations, and event-driven processes
  • Assist in environment setup, upgrades, and maintenance activities

-Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with business and IT stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into automation solutions
  • Participate in requirements discussions, working sessions, and testing activities
  • Collaborate with operations and project teams to ensure reliable batch processing integration with enterprise systems
  • Provide recommendations on best practices for workload automation and platform usage
  • Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in workload data engineering, experience managing enterprise batch scheduling systems, automation, job scheduling, or similar roles, and experience with automation tools like RunMyJobs, Control-M, Autosys, or similar.
  • At least two (2) years of direct, hands-on experience with RunMyJobs, including day-to-day administration and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of job scheduling concepts, dependencies, and workflow orchestration.
  • Provide on-call support for critical batch failures and incidents.
  • At least four (4) years of strong experience creating, debugging, and running scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Born, Python, or other scripting languages) to automate batch jobs and system monitoring.
  • Experience with integrations (consuming APIs, running and controlling file-based ETL or ELT processes).
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of application upgrades, installations, and configuration management.
  • Experience designing and maintaining batch job dependencies, triggers, calendars, and execution windows.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve CI/CD and migration-related incidents.
  • Understanding and experience with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Exposure to ITIL processes and best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7 or more years of direct, hands-on experience with workflow automation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar).
  • Familiarity with mainframe systems and JobTrac.
  • Experience working in the public sector or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to monitoring tools and incident management processes.
  • Understanding of security (IDaaS) and compliance considerations in automation platforms.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

Ability to work a consistent schedule such as Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM, with occasional flexible hours, after hours, weekends, and holidays.

Note: Salary will be determined based on education and experience.

Work Hours: Standard office hours for Commission employees are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our agency offers alternative schedules for employees, provided they do not adversely affect operations or service levels and standard hours of operation are maintained. The Commission may also offer telework in accordance with the agency's approved Telework Plan. Alternate work schedules may be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview process.
