General Description
The Railroad Commission of Texas's Oversight and Safety Division, Alternative Fuels Safety Department (AFS), oversees approximately 89,000 alternative fuel installations and pieces of equipment in Texas. Alternative fuels are defined as liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas/LPG/Propane/Butane/Isobutane/Propylene/Butylene), compressed natural gas (CNG), and liquefied natural gas (LNG). AFS is seeking a Field Inspector in AFS District 19 in the Central Texas area. District 19 consists of the following Counties: Travis, Bastrop, Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca, Caldwell, and Gonzales. (The following link will take you to the AFS district map: https://rrc.texas.gov/media/amehrrdt/afs-districtcounties.pdf)
Work involves on-site technical inspections of alternative fuel installations and equipment (such as bulk storage, cylinder filling, service station, public, commercial, and industrial installations, transport trucks, school buses, and mass transit vehicles) as well as conducting incident/accident investigations, complaint investigations, and special inspections. The inspector determines compliance with state statutes, safety rules, adopted national standards, and federal code requirements. This position offers the opportunity to work with industry professionals to ensure safe operation standards. Inspectors conduct site visits, provide current information on statutes and adopted rules, and ensure that installations and equipment meet safety requirements and regulations. Work is completed under the moderate supervision of the Inspector Manager and Department Director.

You will be required to pass these tests with a minimum score of 80% for CNG and LNG and a minimum score of 85% for LPG.
• Daily and overnight travel includes completing inspections, investigations, and attending training. Daily travel is 80% or more, with overnight travel frequency dependent on the location of the inspector's HQ after initial training is completed.
