Job Description

Must have:

· 7–10+ years of experience in Database Administration, including design, implementation, operations, and optimization of enterprise‑scale database systems.

· Proven expertise administering cloud database platforms, with a strong focus on Azure PaaS and IaaS database services.

· Experience managing cloud data services for project delivery, including storage, repositories, virtual machines, disks, key vaults, Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Data Lakehouse platforms

· Expertise in Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.

· Advanced performance tuning and troubleshooting, including:

  • Query optimization and indexing strategies
  • Azure SQL Query Store analysis
  • Intelligent Performance & automatic tuning features
  • Review of wait statistics and IO analysis
  • TempDB optimization
  • Understanding and mitigating Azure throttling limits

Experience and Skill Set Requirements

Core Skills and Experience

· 7–10+ years of experience in Database Administration, including design, implementation, operations, and optimization of enterprise‑scale database systems.

· Proven expertise administering cloud database platforms, with a strong focus on Azure PaaS and IaaS database services.

· Extensive experience creating logical and physical database designs, including schema optimization for OLTP and analytical workloads.

· Demonstrated experience in database performance tuning, capacity planning, growth forecasting, and lifecycle management.

· Hands‑on experience in database installation, configuration, migration, and upgrades, including modernization from legacy platforms to cloud environments.

· Proven ability to design and support high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies for mission‑critical systems.

· Experience managing cloud data services for project delivery, including storage, repositories, virtual machines, disks, key vaults, Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Data Lakehouse platforms.

· Experience supporting structured, semi‑structured, and unstructured data ingestion, exchange, and provisioning for enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse solutions.

· Demonstrated application of DataOPS principles, including monitoring, alerting, performance optimization, and operational tuning across environments.

· Strong background in incident, change, and configuration management within ITIL‑aligned or governed public‑sector environments.

  • Experience with relational and distributed database systems; exposure to NoSQL or distributed data platforms is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking concepts, including VNET integration, private endpoints, firewalls, and communication protocols.
  • Expertise in logical and physical data modeling, including normalization, denormalization, and partitioning strategies.
  • Experience designing multi‑tenant database architectures.
  • Advanced performance tuning and troubleshooting, including:

  • Expertise designing data tiers that balance performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Expertise implementing Azure authentication and authorization, including Azure AD integration and role‑based access control (RBAC).
  • Strong experience with data protection and encryption, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and key management.
  • Experience reviewing and enforcing network security, firewall rules, and access controls.
  • Proven experience ensuring compliance with audit standards, data classification standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., PHIPPA).
  • Experience researching and implementing cybersecurity vulnerability remediation in database environments.
