JOB TITLE: Host/Hostess

REPORTS TO: Restaurant Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

The Host at The Royce Steakhouse plays a critical leadership role in delivering an exceptional, refined guest experience consistent with The Langham’s five-star standards. Serving as both the first and final point of contact for guests, the Host oversees reservation management, dining room flow, and guest recognition while performing elevated maître d’ level responsibilities. This position works closely with restaurant leadership to ensure flawless execution, personalized service, and seamless coordination between front- and back-of-house teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:

  • Greet all guests with warmth, polish, and professionalism reflective of a luxury fine dining environment.
  • Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists with accuracy and discretion.
  • Escort guests to tables while providing informed, confident introductions to the dining room and service team.
  • Anticipate guest needs, preferences, and special occasions to deliver personalized, memorable experiences.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for VIPs, hotel guests, and repeat clientele.
  • Address guest concerns promptly and discreetly, escalating to management when appropriate.
  • Oversee dining room floor plans, table assignments, and service pacing in coordination with management.
  • Act as the primary controller of guest flow to ensure balanced sections and optimal service timing.
  • Maintain and update detailed guest profiles, preferences, and visit notes within the reservation system.
  • Coordinate closely with the Executive Chef, Sommelier, and Service Managers regarding covers, timing, dietary needs, and special requests.
  • Assist with managing large parties, private dining events, and high-profile guests.
  • Support service recovery initiatives to ensure guest satisfaction aligns with The Langham brand standards.
  • Participate in show-time meetings, guest count forecasting, and service strategy discussions.
  • Uphold and monitor dining room standards related to ambiance, table settings, and overall presentation throughout service.
  • Print, update, and maintain menus as needed, ensuring accuracy, cleanliness, and brand consistenc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Walk or stand for carrying lengths or time, sometimes for extended periods of time of 6+ hours.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry object weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Activities include standing, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, handling, lifting, carrying, seeing, hearing, talking, walking.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must be familiar with Open Table.
  • Knowledge of restaurant and hotel operations.
  • Must be able to guide guests to different areas of the property.
  • Ability to speak the English language to fully comprehend guest requests, memos, reservations, promotional materials, event orders and similar written materials.
  • Ability to effectively deal with customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner. This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the customer and providing positive and proactive solutions.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Prior position within a restaurant in a hospitality environment preferred.

SALARY:

$25.10 - $27.10
