The Bartender sets the tone for Sonesta’s mission of “Wowing” our guests with Amazing Moments. The role’s primary responsibility is to welcome guests, take orders, prepare to serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food items to guests in a friendly, courteous, and timely manner in accordance with quality standards. The Bartender must maintain supply of stock of liquor, bar supplies and follow established cleanliness and sanitation guidelines.

The ideal candidate has a passion for hospitality and providing exceptional guest service.

Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:

  • Greet, welcome, and interact with guests in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Take orders, prepare drinks according to recipes and serve all food and beverage requests in the bar.
  • Ensures that customers are of legal drinking age by checking photo identifications.
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of the food and beverage menu.
  • Prepare the bar for service by ensuring bar supplies, garnishes, utensils are properly set up in accordance with quality standards.
  • Inventory unused liquor and beverages. Ensure that all liquor is properly secured before, during, and at close of shift.
  • Submits orders or creates requisition forms for liquor, beer, wine, and other bar-related supplies.
  • Adhere to all cash handling and credit card policies and procedures. Ensure that all drink orders from servers are accurately rung into the P.O.S. system.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of performance.
  • Able to work quickly without compromising quality.
  • Clean and reset bar top and tables immediately after guests depart.
  • Use proper judgement and, when necessary, refuses service to patrons who are intoxicated or disruptive.
  • Complete all closing duties and reports as assigned.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
  • Display daily professional, courteous, attentive, helpful, and positive attitude towards all guests, fellow employees, and managers.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team to reach common goals.
  • Perform other job duties as requested by supervisors/managers as other job duties maybe assigned as needed.
  • Understanding of Sonesta’s company and safety policies and maintain compliance with OSHA and the health department requirements Ability to perform work without direct supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to deliver high quality customer service and responds to customer needs.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Professional verbal communication skills.
  • Reading and writing abilities to understand departmental correspondences and complete all required departmental documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including dealing with difficult guests.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift.
  • Food handlers and TIPS certificates required.
  • Previous front facing guest service experience preferred.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.

Work Environment

  • Must be able work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to tolerate extreme temperatures – i.e., kitchens, freezers.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to r each overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.
  • Ability to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to move up and down ladders, stairs, and service ramps.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Must be flexible to work variable days of the week to include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be flexible to work variable shifts (days, nights, overnights).
  • Ten to twelve hour shifts sometimes required.

Travel:

  • No travel required. On property work required.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Experience as a Bartender required, preferably in a high-volume bar.
  • Experience with computerized cash registers preferred.

Pay Range

$34.10-$37.14- Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills and job specific/overall experience.
