Job Description

Clean Harbors is seeking a skilled Roving Mentor. The Roving Mentor will work with the Branch Manager and employees to assess learning and training needs.

Based out of Edmonton, Alberta, these positions will support the initial & continuous learning of new & existing employees throughout Alberta during turnaround projects.

The Roving Mentors will enhance the learning experience by acting as a subject matter expert during theory & by coaching/mentoring during the practical training of both industrial vacuum (combo unit, wet vac, steamer) and high-pressure water blasting classes.
The Roving Mentors will provide equipment demonstrations & provide one-on-one support while new hires experience the equipment(s) in a controlled environment. Following training, the Roving Mentors will deploy to projects (within Alberta) to provide continuous mentorship & support to the labour pool.

  • Field based activities: Roving Mentor will travel to sites throughout Canada for the following:
    • Provide coaching and mentoring on the safe operation of our various equipment.
    • Conduct competency evaluations for sign-off of various equipment – completing associated paperwork and ensuring that training records are captured in our Learning Management System,
      • Prepare/execute training plans for employees requiring additional coaching/mentoring to attain sign-off of various equipment through partnership(s) with the employee and Operations teams,
      • Conduct driving assessments for employees authorized to drive Clean Harbors’ equipment – completing associated paperwork and ensuring records are captured in the appropriate location(s),
  • Provide expertise, advice, and support to effectively balance individual and group learning needs/ preferences, strategies, and options in the context of business competency needs and budget/time resource constraints.
  • Working in partnership with Subject Matter Experts, develop or assist in development, pilot, revise and deliver new resources.
  • 2 years’ experience within a leadership/coaching/training role required.
  • 5+ years’ experience within an industrial setting or equipment operating
  • Valid class 1 or 3 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract would be ideal
  • Ability to travel overnight as required.
  • Proficient computer skills; MS office, and Power Point
  • Strong learning, innovation, conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Strong commitment to internal customer service, performance consulting, workforce development, personal initiative and problem solving to identify and facilitate needed change.
