Nigeria has set an ambitious target to achieve at least 80% coverage for all routine immunization antigens Nationally and in every state by 2027, with a strong focus on reducing zero-dose and under-immunized children. This requires a resilient PHC system, skilled health workforce, robust cold chain and logistics, and a strong culture of data use for action. The Nigeria Strategy for Immunization and PHC System Strengthening (NSIPSS) 2023 2027 provides the National roadmap to realize these goals and emphasizes integrated service delivery, sustainable domestic financing, optimized micro-planning, and equity-focused approaches to reach urban slums, hard-to-reach and marginalized populations.
Purpose of AssignmentMCGL-RISE IHP seeks experienced Routine Immunization Master Trainers to lead the capacity strengthening of RI providers in supported states. The assignment will build competencies across key RI domains including service delivery, cold chain and vaccine management, session planning and micro-planning, injection safety and waste management, surveillance and Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) detection/reporting, data quality and use, interpersonal communication and community linkage, and supportive supervision.
ObjectivesBuild practical competencies of RI service providers on RI schedule, session planning (fixed, outreach, mobile), micro-planning (REW/REC), and defaulter tracking. Strengthen cold chain, vaccine handling, and logistics management including temperature monitoring, VVM interpretation, stock management, and last-mile distribution. Improve AEFI surveillance, safety, and reporting, and reinforce injection safety and healthcare waste management practices. Enhance data quality, timely reporting (DHIS2/RI tools), and data use for decision-making at facility and LGA levels. Strengthen community engagement, demand generation, interpersonal communication, and equity-focused strategies to reach zero-dose and under-immunized children. Support development of facility-level action plans and establish supportive supervision and mentoring mechanism.
ScopeThe Master Trainers will support state and LGA teams to implement standardized capacity building for RI providers in secondary and primary health facilities, aligned to National policies and NSIPSS 2023 2027. Activities include pre-training preparation, and delivery of competencybased training using updated modules and an agreed agenda, post training mentorship, and contribution to data-driven performance reviews.
Deliverables

Jhpiego is a nonprofit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative health care solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts and local communities, we build health providers’ skills, and develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families. Our aim is revolutionizing health care for the planet’s most disadvantaged people.
Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University Affiliate, translates decades of program experience and in-depth technical knowledge into moments of care that can mean the difference between life and death for women and families. The moment a woman gives birth; the moment a midwife helps a newborn to breath; the moment a nurse screens for cervical cancer with a simple vinegar swab; the moment a community health worker tests a man for HIV and reports he is HIV free. By embedding the know-how and skills into everyday practice, we are able to increase access to quality health services and create a healthier future for generations to come. Access to lifesaving health care for all people, whoever they are, wherever they live, that’s our mission.
Jhpiego saves lives, improves health, transforms futures.
