CONKLIN METAL INDUSTRIES - NORCROSS BRANCH
6875 Best Friend Road
Suite 100
Doraville, GA 30340
$22-31/hour - pay is based on experience and overall job fit
About the Role
Conklin Metal Industries has been in business since 1874 and as a business we supply sheet metal, HVAC components, duct fabrication materials, galvanized and slit coils, and mechanical pipe insulation to the construction and industrial trades. We run a tight regional distribution operation across the Southeast -- and we move our products on flatbed and conestoga trailers.
We need a Route Analyst who owns the load planning process from start to finish. This is a judgment-driven, manual process -- not a system-generated one. If you can build a compliant mixed load plan in your head, communicate it clearly, and adapt when things shift at the last minute, we want to talk to you.
Who We're Looking For
We're open to two candidate profiles:
The Operator (most likely fit)
You've come up through a manual freight environment -- a metals distributor, building products supply house, or industrial distribution operation. You know heavy freight from the dock up, and you're exceptional at the work.
The Innovator (rare, but we're interested)
You have deep freight knowledge AND the technical background to understand how digital load planning systems are built. You can operate in our current manual environment while helping us think through what an automated future could look like -- not just at Norcross, but across the broader Conklin network.
Who Thrives Here
- Thinks creatively -- you don't wait for a system to hand you the answer
- Knows industrial freight from the dock up: coils, sheet bundles, mixed flatbed loads
- Stays calm when the dock is full and everyone needs something at once
- Communicates clearly with both drivers and sales reps
- Pushes back on unrealistic delivery commitments -- with data, not attitude
What You'll Do
- Build daily load plans for flatbed and conestoga trailers carrying mixed freight
- Account for weight, dimensions, and handling requirements across product types -- coils, sheet bundles, and insulation all load differently
- Sequence regional multi-stop routes to maximize efficiency and hit delivery windows
- Spot consolidation opportunities before trucks roll
- Flag underloaded or inefficient runs before they leave the yard
- Adapt in real time when orders change or equipment goes down
- Translate freight constraints to the sales team before delivery promises are made to customers
- Participate in daily ops handoffs to keep shipping and sales aligned
What You Bring
- Flatbed and/or conestoga experience
- Background in distribution, wholesale, or a supply house
- Heavy industrial freight familiarity: coils, sheet metal, large-format building products
- Solid freight math: DOT weight limits, axle distribution, cube utilization, securement
- Clear communicator across operations and sales audiences
- Innovator profile only: TMS or routing software experience and systems implementation knowledge
What Success Looks Like
30 Days: You can build a compliant mixed load plan with minimal guidance and know the regular stops and product profiles.
90 Days: Load efficiency is improving. Sales is calling you before making delivery promises. The Shipping and Warehouse Managers are freed up to run their operations.
12 Months: Tighter windows, lower cost-per-stop, planning-related damage eliminated. Innovator profile: you've presented a roadmap for what a digital solution could look like at Norcross and beyond.
