Casa Esperanza, Inc. is a bilingual/bicultural behavioral health treatment provider serving Boston and the Merrimack Valley. About the role

  • Casa Esperanza Inc. is seeking (Per Diem) Round Cook to prepare meals and serve to our patients with availability 7 days a week. Our hours are 6am-2pm depending on program needs. The Kitchen Assistant follow will the recipes and directions provided by the Kitchen Manager. Be able to prepare the menu for three healthy meals per day for approximately 75 individuals. The KA also ensures that a variety of healthy snacks are available to residents throughout the day, on weekends.

What you'll do

  • Ability to follow Kitchen Manager Guidelines and be able to work independently when required and to cover for other cooks when needed.
  • Ability to follow the daily menu, prepare and organize the workload to efficiently cook Included cooking from scratch.
  • Serving and storing food in accordance with health and safety standards
  • Stocking food supplies when delivered, including fresh produce, dry goods, canned goods, spices, and pantry items, accordingly
  • Performing quality control on food leaving the kitchen
  • Requesting inventory items to keep up with demand
  • 1-year minimum experience cooking for several people. Be able to cook and prepare a variety of foods.
  • Experience working and safely use all kitchen equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate the purchase of food, supplies and equipment needed to prepare 3 meals per day and make healthy snacks available for up to 75 individuals.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of food preparation and kitchen management experience, preparing meals for 75+ guests per meal.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements and training requirements of the position.
  • Ability to lift repetitively from 25 – 50 pounds.
  • Experience preparing Latin American cuisine is preferred.
  • SERV Safe certified or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Participates in regular training about nutrition and healthy meal preparation.
  • Cooking Experience Min: 1 year (Required)
  • Fluent in Spanish (Preferred)

  1. Whole Foods A significant portion of our food is fresh ; but also we have food coming out of packaging and or boxes premade
  2. Menu Fluidity Seasonality drives the menu, resulting in daily or weekly changes based on what’s fresh and at peak flavor.
  3. Customization Since everything is made from scratch, there’s flexibility to tailor dishes to dietary restrictions.
  4. Craftsmanship Culinary skills and techniques shine through, reflecting the team’s expertise in the kitchen.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Our mission is to empower individuals and families to recover from substance use disorder, trauma, mental illness, and other chronic medical conditions; overcome homelessness; and achieve health and wellness through comprehensive, integrated care.

Our services:

Residential Recovery: Casa Esperanza's Men’s Program serves 29 adult men and Latinas y Niños serves 20 adult women and can also house up to 12 of children age ten or younger so clients in recovery may maintain or regain custody while still in treatment. Residential services usually last six to twelve months and offer evidence-based treatment methodologies as well as assisting clients with setting long-term goals for maintaining their recovery as they transition to independent living.

Structured Outpatient Addictions Program (SOAP): Familias Unidas Outpatient Services is a licensed, CARF-accredited clinic that provides client-centered, integrated services to support the complex, long-term needs of people with co-occurring disorders. Familias is co-located with primary care services and is the only Spanish-language SOAP in Greater Boston.

Supportive Housing: Nueva Vida provides15 single-occupancy units, Dunmore Place & 300 Eustis Street provides eight family units, and Nueva Esperanza provides 14 individual studio units for a total of 37 units of permanent safe, sober housing for individuals and families, with on-site support for maintaining recovery and building independent living skills.

Clinical Stabilization: Conexiones is a structured 24-hour inpatient clinical stabilization program for individuals early in their recovery which includes nursing care, individual and group therapy, psycho-educational groups, case management, health education, and aftercare planning.
