Job Description

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?

At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark transport projects, and collaborate with some of the industry's leading technical experts. With a growing pipeline of rail projects across Australia, we're shaping the future of sustainable mobility by helping our clients deliver safer, smarter and more reliable transport networks.

Due to continued growth within our Western Australia Rail team, we are seeking a Rolling Stock Engineer or Senior Rolling Stock Engineer to support the delivery of complex passenger and freight rolling stock projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work across the full asset lifecycle, providing technical leadership and trusted advice on some of Australia's most significant rail programs.

What you'll do

As part of our Rail team, you will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions that enhance the performance, reliability and safety of rolling stock assets. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading rolling stock engineering activities across the asset lifecycle, including design, manufacture, testing, commissioning, maintenance, upgrades and service introduction.
  • Providing technical assurance through the review and endorsement of engineering designs, modifications and system integration solutions.
  • Working closely with clients, operators, maintainers, manufacturers and project stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Managing engineering work packages, including scope, programme, risk and budget considerations.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces to ensure safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose rolling stock solutions.
  • Contributing technical expertise across asset management, assurance, maintenance strategies, performance optimisation and lifecycle planning.

About you

You are a collaborative and technically capable engineer with experience in rolling stock, rail systems, asset management or related transport infrastructure environments.

You'll bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Typically 3 to 10+ years of experience in rolling stock engineering, including design, manufacture, maintenance, assurance, asset management or rail systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of rolling stock subsystems such as braking systems, bogies, traction equipment, HVAC, auxiliary systems and train control technologies.
  • Familiarity with Australian rail industry standards and international rail standards.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or a commitment to achieving chartership, will be highly regarded.

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all

At WSP, we're committed to creating a culture where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to thrive. We invest in our people through flexible work arrangements, professional development opportunities, technical excellence programs and access to a global community of experts.
