Rolltender - 3rd Shift (11:00pm-7:00am)

  

Performs manual and machine operated tasks related to the Pressroom's splicers and roll stands, both automatically and manually operated  Involved with the use of various chemicals and working on and around web presses with rollers, belts and cylinders all moving at high speeds

Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Count, weigh and record the number of units or material moved on a daily basis
  • Inspect rolls of paper for blemishes, tears, or defects. Cut away damaged areas with a knife as needed and prepare paper for loading
  • Operate machinery and make necessary adjustments to the auto splicer to ensure proper paper feeding and continuous press operation
  • Read and follow job specifications to determine the materials needed for successful job completion and adjust as required
  • Roll paper into position, insert the splicer shaft through the roll core, and secure the holding chucks to the shaft ends. Thread paper through press components
  • Remove and review product from the printing press.
  • Perform quality checks for printed materials

  

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Lift and insert a 75 lb. steel shaft into the core of a paper roll. 
  • Able to complete various types of paperwork, i.e. paper usage and ink usage
  • Able to enter paper usage and ink usage in computer
  • Requires general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Operate electric and manual chain hoist to raise and lower paper roll for splicing
  • Requires general knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials
  • Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine materials needed to run the job successfully
  • Ability to make adjustments to auto splicer Knowledge to load paper and prepare slice for continuous operation of the press
  • Knowledge of materials and requirements for press

Physical Requirements  

  • Lift and insert a 75 lb. steel shaft into the core of a paper roll
  • Ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Inspect and manually maneuver rolls of paper weighing up to 3,300 lbs
  • Ability to frequently bend, twist, squat and lift
  • Long periods of standing
