As a Rod Scan Engineer you will investigate, maintain, and calibrate systems that utilize gamma and neutron detection technologies to ensure nuclear fuel compliance with customer specifications.

Your role will involve technical engagement with customers, data analysis for product validation and quality decisions, and maintaining documentation.

This is an intelligent customer role and a hands-on technical role.

We recognize that this is a niche domain, so we don't require prior experience in every area. We're prepared to provide training and guidance to help you develop the necessary expertise

You will report to the Software Development Manager and be located at Springfields Fuel Site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure solutions meet operational, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Apply practical data analysis / statistical standards for compliance verification.
  • Respond to queries with clear, data-backed explanations from customers and management regarding system performance.
  • Involvement in technical investigations and promote best practices across technical projects.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards.
  • You will work with Quality Assurance, Product Design and Operations teams, and with customers, regulatory bodies such as the ONR, external vendors and contractors, and site management.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Desirable: Data analysis / statistical certifications.
  • Security clearance required for this role: Developed Vetting (DV) or Security Check (SC), depending on project needs.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in data analysis using tools such as Excel, Minitab, Python, SQL, and similar technologies.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and make clear, data‑informed decisions.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working in or with nuclear, defence, or other high-assurance environments.
  • Technical / STEM education e.g. engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, statistics and others.
  • Hands-on experience with gamma detection systems (gamma spectroscopy).
  • Familiarity with 1 or more programming languages, e.g. Python, C#, .Net.
