SUMMARY:

Hopkins High School is seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and student-centered Head Robotics Coach to lead and develop the school's robotics program. The Head Robotics Coach will provide leadership, instruction, and mentorship to students as they design, build, program, test, and compete with robots in organized robotics competitions.

The ideal candidate will create an inclusive and engaging environment where students can develop skills in engineering, programming, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and leadership. The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the robotics program, including team organization, practices, competitions, equipment, student safety, and coordination with families and school administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and direction for the Hopkins High School robotics program.
• Plan, organize, and supervise team meetings, practices, build sessions, and competitions.
• Teach and support students in areas such as mechanical design, engineering, programming, electronics, fabrication, and troubleshooting.
• Guide students through the engineering design process from initial concepts through prototyping, testing, and competition.
• Develop a positive team culture that emphasizes collaboration, creativity, accountability, sportsmanship, and problem-solving.
• Establish clear expectations for student participation, attendance, behavior, and team responsibilities.
• Ensure students follow appropriate safety procedures while using tools, machinery, electrical components, and other robotics equipment.
• Recruit and retain students while creating an inclusive program that welcomes students with varying levels of robotics and STEM experience.
• Identify student leaders and provide opportunities for students to take ownership of team operations, technical projects, and competition responsibilities.
• Coordinate competition registration, schedules, transportation needs, equipment, and other event logistics in collaboration with the Activities/Athletics Office.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, school staff, volunteers, and administrators.
• Recruit, organize, and collaborate with assistant coaches, mentors, volunteers, and community partners when applicable.
• Maintain and properly store robotics equipment, tools, technology, and supplies.
• Promote the robotics program within Hopkins High School and the broader Hopkins community.
• Represent Hopkins High School professionally at competitions, meetings, and community events.
• Perform other duties related to the robotics program as assigned by the Activities/Athletics Department.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience coaching, mentoring, teaching, or participating in robotics, engineering, computer science, STEM, or a related field.
• Knowledge of robotics systems, mechanical design, electronics, programming, fabrication, or engineering principles.
• Experience working with high school students.
• Previous experience with competitive robotics programs is preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively supervise and motivate students with a wide range of technical experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, families, volunteers, and community partners.
• Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.

The coach should prioritize student growth, safety, teamwork, innovation, and the overall educational experience of participating in robotics.

The successful candidate will help build a robotics program that provides students with meaningful opportunities to explore STEM, develop technical and leadership skills, compete successfully, and represent Hopkins High School with pride.

Schedule & Compensation:

90 Days

Stipend Range: $4800 - $5700
