Job Description

About Embo

Embo raised a $120M Seed round led by a16z to build world models for humanoid robotics — the AI brain that enables robots to operate out of the box in new environments. The company is at the ground floor of generalized physical intelligence, and the hardware program is central to how that gets built.

Embo operates a 100-robot humanoid teleoperation fleet in a new 40,000 sq. ft. facility. The data collected from that fleet trains the world models that make robots smarter. Hardware reliability, data fidelity, and fleet uptime are not operational details — they are the foundation of the entire AI program.

The Opportunity

Embo is looking for a Robotics Hardware Engineer to own the physical layer powering their humanoid AI. You have shipped complex, production-grade mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic systems at scale and thrive in a high-ownership, fast-paced environment.

You will join a small founding team and have the scope to shape the hardware program from the ground up — from resolving fleet-wide failure modes today to evaluating humanoid vendors and informing buy-versus-build decisions for Embo's own humanoid program tomorrow. If you want your hardware work to become the foundation for generalized physical intelligence, this is where you want to be.

What You'll Do

  • Own hardware operations and data quality for a 100-robot humanoid teleoperation fleet, ensuring the highest-fidelity, most reliable training data possible
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate new hardware components including cameras, dexterous hands, sensors, robot models, and accessories; design custom connectors, mounts, and attachments to make them work reliably at fleet scale
  • Identify and resolve fleet-wide hardware failure patterns; design robustness solutions such as tethering systems or protective fixtures to maximize training uptime
  • Rapidly prototype, iterate, and scale mechanical and electrical systems — from CAD to fabrication — that improve robot reliability, teleoperation quality, and data collection operations
  • Shape the long-term hardware roadmap, including evaluating humanoid vendors, informing buy-versus-build decisions, and laying the groundwork for Embo's own humanoid program

You Should Have

  • 3-8+ years of experience shipping complex mechanical or electrical hardware products into production at scale
  • A track record of taking hardware to production volume, ideally at companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, Anduril, or in defense or automotive
  • Experience spanning both mechanical and electrical systems on complex products
  • Prior robotics or humanoid hardware experience
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Strong CAD skills and mechanical design experience for production-scale systems
  • Knowledge of sensors, actuators, cameras, and motion control
  • Software fluency in Python or equivalent

Nice to Have

  • PhD in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with humanoid platforms specifically or large-scale robot fleet operations

About Rethink Recruit

At Rethink Recruit, we bring a mix of old-school work ethic with a modern approach to recruitment. Our competitive edge comes from our niche focus on Autonomous Driving, EVs, AI, Robotics, Blockchain (FinTech), and the ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies.

For our clients - it allows them to tap into our talent pool of tens of thousands of pre-qualified, industry and skill-specific candidates with whom we have developed close working relationships over the past decade.

For our candidates - it allows them to spend less time on their job search by engaging with more industry-specific companies and more skill-specific jobs.

We believe that any agency can find marginal success by deploying a host of modern technologies and recruitment tools for outreach ($$$). Yet, what separates the good agencies from the great is how relevant their outreach is and how well they utilize their tools. We help bridge that gap by harnessing the power of modern technology to build long-standing relationships with thousands of diverse and incredibly talented people.
