Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Robotics & Automation Engineer to join our Power Transformer manufacturing team. In this factory-based role, you will bridge mechanical processes and digital controls, designing and deploying sophisticated automated systems to optimize production. You will be instrumental in driving the digital transformation of our facility, ensuring that robotics solutions are scalable, safe, and seamlessly integrated into our existing operational ecosystem.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee robotics and automation initiatives from conceptualization and business case development through design, testing, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze manual manufacturing workflows in collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify and execute high-impact automation opportunities using Lean principles.
  • Operational Integration: Partner with factory operators to develop intuitive, efficient solutions that meet operational needs, improve productivity, and enhance safety standards.
  • Digital Connectivity: Serve as the primary liaison between operations and IT/OT teams to integrate robotic systems with enterprise platforms, including SAP, MES, and Windchill, using standard industrial data protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT).
  • Strategic Contribution: Assist in the development and execution of the factory’s long-term automation and digitalization roadmap, ensuring alignment with broader business and technology objectives.
  • Vendor Management: Manage external vendors and system integrators; oversee the procurement of robotic hardware and ensure SLA compliance for post-installation support.
  • Capability Building: Design and deliver training programs for shop-floor operators and maintenance technicians to ensure the sustainable adoption and troubleshooting of new automated systems.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience delivering robotics and automation projects within industrial manufacturing environments. Experience with heavy electrical equipment is highly valued.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Expertise in sophisticated PLC programming.
    • Practical application of machine learning for robotic control and system design.
    • Deep understanding of industrial safety standards and protocols.
  • Methodologies: Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles; experience facilitating Kaizen workshops and tracking the effectiveness of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to translate technical requirements for diverse stakeholders.

Desired Characteristics

  • Software & Coding: Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Hardware Expertise: Hands-on experience with robot controllers and tooling (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA, UR).
  • Vision & Sensing: Familiarity with vision systems and sensor integration for precision assembly.
  • Innovation: Demonstrated ability to translate innovative concepts into functional prototypes and full-scale deployments.
  • Problem-Solving: Advanced analytical capabilities, including experience with Lean/Six Sigma principles to resolve complex manufacturing challenges.
  • Industry Context: Previous experience in assembly-based, high-voltage, or heavy-duty manufacturing environments.
