Job Description

Schaeffler is a dynamic global technology company and its success has been a result of its entrepreneurial spirit and long history of private ownership. Does that sound interesting to you? As a partner to all of the major automobile manufacturers, as well as key players in the aerospace and industrial sectors, we offer you many development opportunities.

Goal of Position

This role drives the development of advanced robotics solutions by integrating electric motor technologies, control systems, and intelligent software to support innovation in mobility and industrial applications. The position plays a key role in leading collaborative research efforts with internal teams and external partners, translating emerging technologies into practical prototypes and scalable solutions. It also contributes to strengthening regional R&D capabilities and supporting strategic innovation initiatives.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements, and design robotics solutions leveraging electric motors, drive systems, and control algorithms
  • Lead the development and rapid prototyping of robotics solutions, working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, including integration with embedded AI systems and ROS-based platforms
  • Develop and implement dynamic models, power systems, and control algorithms to enable integration of simulation and real-world systems in mobility and robotics applications
  • Drive joint research initiatives with external partners (e.g. universities, research institutes, industry collaborators), including project oversight, technical advisory, and capability development across teams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, interns, and researchers, supporting skills development in robotics hardware, software, and system integration
  • Contribute to intellectual property development, including invention disclosures and patent support, in line with company innovation strategy
  • Support capability building in robotics, including electric motor systems, controls, and software development within the regional R&D and digitalization teams
  • Define engineering requirements, system specifications, and validation criteria, incorporating experimental testing, data collection, and simulation modelling
  • Collaborate with industry partners and research institutions to support grant proposals and funding initiatives aligned with strategic R&D objectives

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in robotics development, covering both hardware and software domains
  • Strong experience in robotics systems, including electric motors and drive systems, control algorithms, and robotic electrical/electronic systems
  • Proficiency in robotics programming using ROS/ROS2 on Linux/Ubuntu platforms
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, control theory, and system integration
  • Experience in developing and implementing algorithms in both simulation environments (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Gazebo, Isaac Sim) and physical prototypes
  • Hands-on experience with electronics development, including PCB design/assembly, use of lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes), and debugging tools
  • Ability to design software architectures across system levels, from low-level control (actuators, communication, power systems) to higher-level system control (robot kinematics and dynamics)
  • Experience in developing and prototyping solutions with Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4–6
  • Strong project execution skills, with the ability to translate concepts into working prototypes
  • Passion for emerging technologies, innovation, and experimentation
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with a proactive and self-driven approach
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and partners
