
TxDOT's Austin District invites you to join our team as a Roadway Maintenance Technician (Transportation Maint Tech) I/II/III in Burnet, Texas! This position will perform routine work related to transportation activities such as construction inspection, routine and contract maintenance inspection, bridge inspection and record keeping, roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, assisting the public during emergency situations, and training other employees.

This position performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.
Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and
brush.
Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and
maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

May serve as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.
Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Maintains construction project records and bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
Reviews plans, enters data and updates, stores and maintains plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) documents and files; assists in PS&E processing for letting, to include reproducing and distributing documents.
Reviews proposed construction plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, policies, procedures, and design guidelines.
Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.
Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
Trains other employees.
Provides support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; and provides assistance to stranded motorists.
Inspects and processes damage claims.
Verifies and processes maintenance contract inspection data to build work orders and request payment funding.

Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 12 months/1year from date of employment.
