Job Description

Reporting to the Roads Supervisors, the incumbents will perform labour-related duties with regard to maintenance of roads, road signs, curb and gutters, sidewalks etc. Related tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Hand load construction and maintenance materials.
  • Complete daily journals.
  • Complete circle checks for vehicles.
  • Assist with the maintenance of curb and gutters, sidewalks, signs, culverts, catch basins, storm sewers, ditches, pavement patching and road restoration.
  • Assist with traffic control and pilot truck operations for road construction and maintenance work.
  • Hand sweep sand and stone from road surfaces, hand digs around underground utilities.
  • Carry out maintenance and housekeeping duties on grounds and buildings.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School student – minimum of 16 years of age.
  • 3 months related experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, complete duties to an acceptable level of quantity and quality with minimal supervision and follow all of Norfolk County Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
  • Must be motivated, hardworking individual able to work outside in all weather (hot, dusty, cold and wet).
  • Ability to safely operate various tools and equipment related to general maintenance.
  • Must have green patch CSA approved safety boots, 6” – 8” to cover ankle, suede or leather.
  • Must have Class G2 Driver’s License.

Note

Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays.

Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.

At time of application must be enrolled in a secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.

Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) from their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.
