We are hiring either a Road Maintenance Trainee or Road Maintenance Worker I which fall within a career progression program giving employees the opportunity for advancement. Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is required, but employees may be hired as a full time Road Maintenance Trainee on a temporary basis as long as required licensure is obtained within six months.

Road Maintenance Trainee Pay Range (will vary based on relevant experience):
Note: Trainee position is for those candidates that do not have a CDL. Once candidate obtains the CDL License, they will progress to as Road Maintenance Worker I, job grade 13.
Job Grade 12.13 - pays at a 12 level.
Minimum Range: $17.33
Midpoint Range: $20.39
Maximum Range: $23.45
Road Maintenance Worker I Pay Range (will vary based on relevant experience):
Job Grade 13.13 - pays at a 13 level.
Minimum Range: $21.01
Midpoint Range: $24.72
Maximum Range: $28.43
The job duties of the Road Maintenance Trainee/Worker may include the following:
Minimum Job Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent and valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record are required. A Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is also required for the Road Maintenance Worker I position, but full-time trainees have six months to obtain required licensure in order to maintain employment and advance in our career progression plan.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Education/Experience Substitutions:
Experience may be substituted for degree.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
Excessive standing and/or walking – 80%
Lifting – 50lbs.
Travel required: 50% local and 5% outside Johnson County
Weather essential job - Department essential
Wear goggles, rubber boots, rubber gloves, and other PPE as required
Position is required to respond to requests for emergency and afterhours work which will require work when the facility is closed, example is holidays, weekends, nights. This work will require overtime as needed.
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
