We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Road Maintenance Officer to join our team in Coolaroo, Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing road surfaces, ensuring safe and efficient transportation infrastructure for our community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a field-based environment. You will work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to complete maintenance tasks and respond to road-related issues in a timely manner.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Inspect road surfaces, drainage systems, and related infrastructure to identify maintenance and repair needs
  • Perform routine maintenance activities including patching, sealing, and resurfacing of roads
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as compactors, pavers, and graders in accordance with safety protocols
  • Respond promptly to road damage reports and emergency situations
  • Coordinate with traffic management personnel to ensure public safety during maintenance operations
  • Document maintenance activities, equipment usage, and work completed for record-keeping purposes
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project progress and challenges
  • Perform minor repairs and troubleshooting on maintenance equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and properly store tools and materials

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • 2-3 years of experience in road maintenance, construction, or similar field-based work
  • Proficiency in operating heavy machinery and maintenance equipment
  • Strong understanding of road safety protocols and traffic management principles
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions
  • Valid Australian driver's license
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Clear communication skills and attention to detail

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Heavy vehicle license (HR or HC class)
  • First Aid certification
  • Traffic management certification
  • Experience with road asset management systems
  • Knowledge of local road infrastructure standards and maintenance schedules
  • Previous experience working for local government or transportation authorities
