Job Description

Job Title: Gas Plant Operator

Location: Dry Creek Landfill – Eagle Point OR
Company: Rogue Waste Systems
Job Type: Full-Time

Work Schedule: 7:00am - ~3:30pm (Until day’s work is complete)

[Required] On-Call: One 24/7 On-Call Week Per Month.

Must have reliable transportation for 1-2hr Response Time.

Starting Pay: $35.00-$48.00/hr + Bonus

Probationary Period: 90 Days

Drug and alcohol testing: Subject to pre-employment drug testing and random selection drug and alcohol testing per DOT requirements and Company policy.

The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. This role ensures continuous system availability by monitoring and controlling operating parameters, including pressure, temperature, flow rates, and electrical/mechanical performance, through control systems (e.g., SCADA, DCS, or PLC interfaces).

The ideal candidate is dependable, analytically minded, and mechanically inclined; able to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisors, technicians, contractors, and other site personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor plant systems and associated process equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance.
  • Control and maintain key operating parameters (pressure, temperature, flow rates, and electrical/mechanical performance) using SCADA, DCS, or PLC systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive checks to identify abnormal conditions, equipment degradation, or process deviations.
  • Analyze system trends and alarms to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Support maintenance activities by isolating equipment, executing lockout/tagout (LOTO), and preparing systems for safe maintenance and return to service.
  • Respond to alarms, process upsets, and emergency conditions by assessing risks, stabilizing operations, and initiating corrective procedures.
  • Execute emergency response protocols, including emergency shutdowns (ESD), and coordinate with site emergency response teams to mitigate hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with site operating procedures, OSHA safety standards, and applicable environmental regulations (e.g., EPA).
  • Accurately document operating data, incidents, alarms, and corrective actions in logs and reporting systems.
  • Interpret technical documentation including P&IDs, SOPs, and equipment manuals to support safe and effective operations.
  • Communicate operational status, issues, and updates clearly with supervisors, maintenance personnel, contractors, and team members.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and communicate supply or parts needs to supervision.
  • Respond to call-outs, emergencies, and off-hours operational needs as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with Clean Driving Record. (Required)

+ Reliable Transportation for On-Call Schedule

  • Must pass criminal background check, drug panel screening and motor vehicle report to be eligible for employment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training, trade school, or related college coursework is preferred.
  • Experience in plant operations, industrial equipment, landfill gas systems, utility systems, mechanical maintenance, or a similar industrial environment is preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to use hand tools and perform routine equipment checks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and basic computer skills for logs, email, and monitoring systems
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Availability for on-call support, overtime, weekends, holidays, or varied schedules as needed.
