The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Assistant to join their team.
Reporting to Dr. Omeid Heidari, the RN Research Assistant will provide office-based and community-based buprenorphine and HIV care services for participants enrolled in a Type 3 hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial. The RN Research Assistant will play a central role in implementing study interventions, ensuring protocol fidelity, collecting and documenting study-related clinical data, and supporting research activities necessary to evaluate study outcomes.
This RN Research Assistant will administer and support both the Community-Based Opioid Treatment (CBOT) and Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) study arms, conduct participant assessments, document clinical encounters and study measures, and collaborate with the research team to ensure accurate and complete collection of study data. The RN Research Assistant will also participate in study meetings, intervention training, and quality assurance activities to support successful implementation of the research protocol.
· Carry out health screenings focused on substance use disorders and related health conditions for study participants.
· Conduct protocol-specified clinical assessments and collect study-related health information required for outcome measurement.
· Determine clinical needs and levels of care where referrals may be needed while documenting findings according to study procedures.
· Assist clinicians and medical team in screening for common medical concerns relevant to study outcomes.
· Obtain and document laboratory results and clinical indicators required for research data collection.
· Assess participant physical health needs and document findings in accordance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation of participant encounters, assessments, and study-related activities in clinical and research records.
· Support quality assurance and protocol adherence activities to ensure completeness and accuracy of research data.
· Administer and support implementation of the CBOT and OBOT intervention arms according to study protocols.
· Assist with scheduling and coordinating participant visits required for intervention delivery and research follow-up.
· Review participant records and study documentation to ensure intervention activities are conducted according to protocol.
· Communicate medication issues, hospitalizations, adverse events, and new health conditions to study investigators and treating providers as appropriate.
· Obtain protocol-required clinical measures and document these data for study outcome measurement.
· Facilitate in-person and community-based visits associated with intervention delivery and participant follow-up.
· Collaborate with study investigators and clinical partners to monitor implementation fidelity and address barriers to intervention delivery.
· Perform administration of oral and injectable medications, including long-acting injectable buprenorphine, as specified by study protocols and prescriber orders.
· Follow DEA regulations and clinic policies for receiving, administering, documenting, and disposing of medications.
· Monitor medication adherence, side effects, and participant response to treatment, documenting observations in accordance with research protocols.
· Collect and document medication-related data required for study outcomes and implementation measures.
· Support implementation fidelity by ensuring medication management procedures are delivered consistently across study participants and settings.
· Participate in protocol reviews and study quality improvement activities related to medication administration.
· Coordinate referrals and access to primary care, specialty care, and laboratory services for study participants.
· Collaborate with community agencies, pharmacies, and healthcare providers to support participant engagement and retention in the study.
· Participate in study team meetings, implementation planning sessions, investigator meetings, and protocol training activities.
· Assist with training nurses, providers, and clinical staff who will administer CBOT and OBOT interventions, ensuring consistency with study protocols.
· Support participant recruitment, retention, and follow-up activities as directed by the research team.
· Communicate with investigators and research staff regarding protocol adherence, participant progress, and implementation challenges.
· Contribute to ongoing evaluation of implementation processes and intervention delivery by providing feedback to the study team.
This RN Research Assistant will provide services only to participants receiving care through the Harborview Madison Clinic and enrolled in activities related to the hybrid implementation-clinical trial. In addition to delivering clinical care, the RN Research Assistant will directly support research activities by implementing the CBOT and OBOT intervention arms, conducting and documenting protocol-specified assessments, collecting data required for outcome measurement, participating in study meetings and quality assurance activities, and training clinical personnel involved in intervention delivery. These activities are essential to the conduct of the research funded under award 1DP2DA063123 and contribute directly to the evaluation of study effectiveness and implementation outcomes.

· Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or a relevant field AND One year of experience as a registered nurse
· Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
· Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
· Master’s degree in nursing, public health or equivalent health field
· 2 years of research experience working with quantitative and qualitative data
Work is performed primarily in a standard indoor office or hybrid environment utilizing desktop hardware, telephones, and standard business software. Position is eligible for hybrid work as determined by the supervisor.
