The University of Alabama at BirminghamGeneral Responsibilities:

This position will coordinate and facilitate quality improvement and performance management activities for multiple hospital and field unit teams, including nurses, physicians, and other clinical champions, in accordance with hospital policies. As emergency medical protocols are implemented to stabilize obstetric and neonatal patients and prepare for transport to higher levels of care, this position will support hospitals and first responders. This position will also provide training and consultation to participating hospitals, emergency medical providers, and partners, and provide technical assistance related to quality improvement methodologies, including but not limited to 30/60/90-day work plans and Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles/ small tests of change. This role will support Alabama Perinatal Quality Collaborative staff with other associated activities including identifying speakers for webinars and engaging with perinatal quality collaboratives in other states. This position includes travel to support in-person training activities with hospital and first responder populations.This position requires the successful candidate to work 100% onsite during their initial six-month probationary period.Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Consults, collaborates, and provides technical assistance to participating hospitals and first responders with a focus on improving outcomes in obstetric and neonatal populations.
  2. Identifies opportunities for linking peers across hospitals and regional first responders to share best practices.
  3. Supports, conducts, and participates in quality improvement training.
  4. Uses evidence-based protocols, combined with innovative, practical ideas to support hospital clinical teams in continuous quality improvement efforts including but not limited to 30/60/90 day work plans and Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) cycles/ small tests of change.
  5. Develop webinars, including identifying and soliciting speakers and facilitating as needed.
  6. Conduct regular meetings (in-person or virtual) with hospital teams and first responders to assess ongoing training needs, and provides project and hospital-specific recommendations based on the data.
  7. Collaborates with ALPQC staff, clinical champions, and data management, and evaluation partners.
  8. Provides recommendations for staff and clinical leads in the selection, design, development, and implementation of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care.
  9. Leads development of materials including tools to support the project, for example: project toolkit materials (e.g. provider, nurse, and patient education, clinical process flows, and checklists), quality improvement implementation and clinical engagement tools such as newsletters, and presentation slides, and educational resources.
  10. Supports implementation of Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Patient Safety Bundles, including attending regular meetings with AIM program officers and state teams and providing updates as needed.
  11. Supports the implementation of scholarly endeavors such as research, evidence-based practice, publications, and presentations as needed and serves as a project liaison with steering committee members and other partners.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.Salary Pay Range: $60,835 – $87,550

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing and four (4) years of clinical nursing experience, one (1) year of which should be experience conducting or supporting quality improvement activities, required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
