The Registered Specialty Nurse Patient Education is responsible for creating an environment in classroom and clinical settings that facilitate learning. They effectively demonstrate the ability to deliver education to the intended audience using appropriate teaching strategies, adult learning principles, teaching tools and written information. They are responsible for designing curricula and formulating program outcomes to prepare patients/family to maintain or improve their health behaviors and/or health status after leaving the hospital/clinic with regards to diabetes. They are knowledgeable of, and use, a variety of education strategies to assess and evaluate patient/family learning. They will routinely collaborate with other health professionals to provide for the education needs of patients/families.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree in Nursing with 7 years or
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing plus 5 years of RN experience

Key Responsibilities
Assesses learning needs and provides instruction to patients and families about diabetes management
Documents in electronic record of instructions, attainment of learning goals, and collaboration with other multiple disciplinary healthcare providers.
Contacts insurance carriers for information on the preferred medications and testing supplies.
Provides diabetes education for all staff as needed.
Attains diabetes education supplies and testing supplies for our area.
Creates patient education documents for patients, families, and staff as needed.
Proficiency testing for hospital glucometers every 6 months.
Orders the specimens and reports information to WSLH.
Implements education using an approach that is interdisciplinary with Patient and Family Centered Care and other health care providers.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing
routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks,
Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying
Respirators (CAPR).
Salary Information:
Commensurate with education and experience.
