Caregivers in Mercy Hospital’s Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) work under the medical direction of the General Anesthesiology department to ensure that post-operative patients receive world-class care and meet PACU discharge. This is a tight-knit group of caregivers whose top priority is patient care and helping each other. Caregivers in the PACU also work in the Same Day Surgery Unit, which handles less complicated surgeries that require an overnight hospital stay. A high percentage of these patients havetheir surgeryand go home the same day.RN’son this team will deliver exceptionalcare,throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed
This role offers a pathway to other procedural settings and operating rooms as well as the opportunity to cross train to work in other areas and explore leadership positions down the line.Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering your education, committee participation and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills.
A caregiver in this position worksvarying days and hours between10:30AM – 7:00PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement, monitor, evaluate,updateand revise patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
Administerprescribed medications and treatments.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess andcoordinatepatients’ discharge needs.
Educate patients and their families
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing(Diploma,ADNor BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS)and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)certificationsthrough the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
One-year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’sofScience inNursing (BSN)
