Job Description

Acts as a role model for professional behavior by demonstrating responsible guidance, clinical expertise, mentoring and functional direction to staff members while optimizing available resources for optimal patient outcomes. This role includes but is not limited to circulating in the OR, perioperative patient care coordination with the Clinical Coordinator, staff education, and department performance improvement.

Primary Functions:

  • Acts as a clinical resource and mentor for perioperative staff using evidence based knowledge and prevailing standards
  • Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and others
  • Uses effective conflict resolution techniques
  • Works with the Clinical Coordinator and Director of Surgical Services and other staff members to enhance quality improvement by identifying areas for improvement, collecting, analyzing, implementing and reporting on the QI project
  • Participates in interviews for staff selection
  • Works with Clinical Coordinator on staff scheduling.
  • Gives input to the Director regarding staff member performance prior to annual evaluation

Secondary Functions:

  • Continues professional growth by:
    • Participating in and supporting education, in-house education, Mosby's online, library and staff development
    • Participating in staff meetings and committees
    • Maintaining staff education hours for state registration
    • Attending all mandatory in-services throughout year including BLS, Fire Safety, Infection Control, ACLS, Malignant hyperthermia, and others as required.
  • Maintains professionalism by conforming to personnel policy established for Huggins Hospital regarding:
    • Confidentially
    • Dress Code
    • Attendance
    • Punctuality
  • Serves on committees and attends meeting as requested.
  • Utilizes supplies and equipment properly without waste.

· Attendance: Attendance is an essential job function; employee comes to work daily, on time, and completes scheduled shift

· HIPAA: facilitates to maintain patient confidentiality

· Internal communication: contributes to positive team performance and a culture of service excellence through effective communication, active listening, and respect

· Interpersonal relationships: maintains appropriate interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and visitors at all times. Works as a team member with other departments.

· Safety: Practices workplace safety daily

Employee Engagement:

· Actively participates in all hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings

· Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes

· Completes all required annual education on or before the due date

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

· Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers

· Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress

· Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word

· Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication

· Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner

· Familiarity with computer and other business machines

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Experience: Six (6) months experience for specialty area

License and Certification:

  • Current Registered Nurse licensed in the state of New Hampshire
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required
