Job Objective:
Provides on unit and department specific education to nursing and allied health staff through informal and formal education programs. Assists Clinical Directors and Clinical Managers in ensuring staff onboarding, initial & ongoing competency management, skills assessment & development, and career-long opportunities for professional growth. Assists in accreditation and regulatory educational requirements and documentation.
Education:
Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s in Nursing
Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Registered Nurse (RN) License; American Heart Association BLS; Additional certifications required as outlined based on assigned department:
Preferred: Certification in Nursing Professional Development; certification in clinical specialty
Experience:
Required: Three (3) years of nursing experience in an acute hospital or ambulatory care clinical setting
Preferred: Clinical education and professional development experience; experience as a clinical leader/ charge nurse or preceptor

Essential Responsibilities
1.Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2.Utilizes nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and outcomes identification).
3.Fulfills the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner role functions and essential responsibilities as defined and outlined in the Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice, including but not limited to:
4.Coordinates orientation program for new hires and transfers within the nursing division
5.Develops/coordinates education plans associated with competency validation
6.Develops/coordinates education to address populations served on assigned units
7.Develops/coordinates education to facilitate the development of the clinical staff and nurses
8.Assesses, plans, implements and maintains materials for educational programs and makes changes as needed to keep material accurate, relevant and current for target audience
9.Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs
10.Incorporates the principles of adult learning in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs
11.Teaches effectively and uses dynamic and unique approaches to engage target audience.
12.Coordinates and provides courses and classes that promote staff development and competence.
13.Utilizes feedback from physicians, directors, nursing staff and other disciplines to develop education plans for areas assigned.
14.Ensures educational programs are in alignment with the mission, values and goals of EMC
15.Participates in the development of education for regulatory requirements and the management of critical events
16.Responds to needs across organization to promote quality patient care and safety
17.Collaborates with medical staff and other disciplines on programs to facilitate excellence in patient care utilizing the Relationship-Based Care Model
18.Consults with staff to promote professional development with career pathway or as requested by staff/leadership
19.Supports Nursing Research and evidence-based practice
20.Supports the integration of research into nursing practice
21.Incorporates, interprets and communicates research findings into program plans
22.Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support them
23.Take responsibility for ensuring that the standard work is adopted and cascaded throughout all areas within clinical areas as appropriate.
24.Ensuring the development, implementation, and enforcement of all policies and procedures, including patient rights in clinical setting.
25.Actively participates in and/or effectively leads various committees and workgroups as needed and assigned to improve nursing practice, organizational performance and optimal patient and population outcomes.
26.Builds relationships with educational institutions and clinical practices to coordinate and mentor clinical leaders to develop quality student placement activities for RNs, LVN and CMA/MA, and Technicians.
27.Participates in on site regulatory surveys and development of Corrective Action Plans as needed.
28.Integrates ethical principles as defined by the ANA Code of Ethics in all aspects of practice.
29.Assists with recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Facilitates programs based on organizational needs in relation to recruitment.
30.Provides information, interpretation and guidance to nurses regarding Informatics
31.Serves as a resource and liaison for the documentation, implementation, design and continuous maintenance of clinical information systems
32.Serves as content expert for electronic applications for areas served
33.Assists and supports system implementations and the roll out of new applications and system enhancements
34.Provides guidance in the use of clinical information systems
35.Reviews clinical information system related to areas served for content updates for nursing practice and regulatory requirements
36.Teaches informatics classes for orientation and implementation of new applications
37.Serves as super-user for electronic applications appropriate to assigned areas
38.Assists with monitoring and education within the clinical specialty to ensure quality care and quality outcomes are met in a cost-effective manner
39.Performs other duties as assigned.
