RN (Medical Oncology)-Safe Handling

RN in Medical Oncology is responsible for the professional nurse-level responsibility and accountability for the Cancer Center patients. This individual participates in a medical surveillance screen prior to starting the position, while performing in the position, and upon exiting the position to minimize potential adverse health effects from the hazardous drugs handled in the job.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm; Friday 8am-3pm

Required: ADN, RN in State of IL, BLS or CPR certificate within 90 days of hire

Pay: Based on experience, starting at $35.43

Responsibilities

Assessment- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or the situation. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data., Assists with quality improvement plan for Cancer Center., Consistently documents care and service in accordance with current Plan for Provision of Care, systems and protocols., Consistently processes patient charges for procedures and supplies correctly., Coordination of Care- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients., Diagnosis - Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues., Evaluation- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines., Handles administers and disposes of chemotherapeutic agents properly taking precautions related to all potential hazards., Handles patient phone calls for patient education and/or reassurance needs., Implementation - Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards., Knowledge - In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities., Maintains a timely patient schedule., Maintains composure while dealings with unpleasant or unsuccessful patient outcomes related to their disease process., Outcomes Identification - Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation., Planning - Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes., Provides patients and families with psycho-social support related to their diagnosis and treatment., Relationships - Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions., Teaching - Employs teaching strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
