7:30am-4pm Mon-Friday
Utilizing the nursing process, the staff nurse is accountable for the delivery of patient care and patient recovery in the Radiology department. Assistant to the Radiologist and Technologist during special procedures. Maintain patient IV access when applicable. Administration of medication and contrast (IV) as ordered per physician.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
- Holds an active Registered Nurse license, and is eligible to practice in the state of Kentucky.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Current ACLS certification required.
Minimum Work Experience
- 1 year experience in Interventional Radiology, Cardiovascular Lab or 2 years experience in CCU/ICU/ER
- Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering medications and treatments, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers, and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervise the care of all patients in Radiology according to standards of care. Delegate tasks to support staff according to their scope of practice. Record and implement physician orders accurately. Control and accurately record the use of narcotics assigned to the Radiology Department. Demonstrate ability to start IV's and monitor IV fluids. Summarize patient status by giving a pertinent and concise report. Assist with code blue and resuscitation of patients in competent manner. Recover patients post procedure following established protocols. Prepares room, medicine and materials as needed for patient.
- Assists in scheduling procedures. Ensures all pre-op labs, prior imaging, History & Physical and consent are complete prior to procedures. Apply principles of radiation protection during all procedures. Communicate with patients and families pre and post procedure in a professional manner. Assist in cleaning patient care area and equipment as required. Scrub and assist physician in conducting invasive procedures as needed. Complete nurse notes and other documentation as required. Prepare patient for procedure according to department policy. Record and monitor patient data throughout procedures. Provide transportation of patient as needed and give report to nursing staff during handoff.
- Monitors patients having angiographic studies, biopsies, and other related studies. Performs any and all related tasks as required in the scope of Nursing. Maintains stock supplies of medication and performs general office duties. Maintains and initiates adequate IV or port access for injection of medication and/or contrast as ordered per physician.
- Demonstrates courtesy, proper etiquette and education to patients, families, and staff members at all times. Promotes excellent patient care at all times. Keeps family informed of patient condition, provides all reasonable patient and family requests, if unable to provide requests offer alternative or justifiable explanation. Performs all assigned RIS transactions to ensure that accurate patient and procedure information is recorded in a timely fashion for the patient medical record and billing purposes.
