“The RN is a nursing professional care provider under the direction of the director or designee who utilizes the nursing process, nursing standards and physicians orders to plan, provide and direct nursing practice. Accomplishment of nursing practice that includes practice elements as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork. Responsible to participate in shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity and safety for the patient and their family. Accountable for leadership of self and others and functions as charge nurse when designated. Exhibits F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).”

Essential RN Job Duties

Caring for patients with the following treatments:

1. Mechanical ventilation
2. Continuous vasoactive drip infusion with drug titration
3. Continuous inotropic drip infusion with drug titration
4. Continuous sedating drip infusion with drug titration
5. Continuous neuromuscular blockade drip infusion with drug titration
6. Continuous anti-hypertensive drip infusion with drug titration
7. Continuous glycemic control drip infusion with drug titration
8. Continuous antiplatelet/anticoagulating drip infusion with drug titration
9. Continuous antithrombolytic drip infusion with drug titration
10. Continuous antiarrhythmic drip infusion with drug titration
11. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy
12. Temperature Management System via external and internal pad or catheters.
13. Intra-Aortic balloon pump device
14. Impella ventricular assist device
15. EKOS Ultrasound-Enhanced thrombolytic device
16. Antithrombotic fountain catheters
17. Pulmonary artery catheter
18. Arterial lines
19. Tunneled and non-tunneled central venous line
20. Intraabdominal pressure monitoring system
21. Rotoprone bed therapy system
22. Cerebellum EEG Technology
23. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange via PrisMax CRRT Device
24. If received additional training, the management of Extracorporeal Membrane
25. Oxygenation modality via LivaNova device.
26. Critical care thinking.
27. Hemodynamic monitoring.
28. Complete care of Critically Ill Patient.

• Assist with procedures including but not limited to:

1. Bronchoscopy
2. Central venous line insertion
3. Arterial line insertion
4. Temporary dialysis access insertion
5. Pulmonary artery catheter insertion
6. Cardioversion
7. Transesophageal echocardiogram
8. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy
9. Colonoscopy
10. Percutaneous tracheostomy
11. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
12. Thoracentesis
13. Paracentesis
14. Chest tube insertion
15. Lumbar puncture
16. Temporary pacemaker placement
17. Emergent open laparotomy

• Compliance with all approved Critical Care ICU Standing Orders/Protocols/Policies including, but not limited to:

1. Diabetic ketoacidosis insulin drip protocol
2. Critical care insulin drip protocol
3. ICU Nursing standing orders protocol
4. Critical care early mobility protocol
5. Therapeutic hypothermia protocol
6. Sub-anesthetic continuous ketamine infusion protocol
7. TPA for the acute ischemic stroke protocol
8. Continuous renal replacement therapy protocol
9. KODA Organ procurement protocol

• Care of the unstable patient including but not limited to:

1. S/P Cardiac arrest
2. Septic shock
3. S/P Rapid response
4. Hemodynamically unstable admission from ED or outside facility
5. S/P major surgery
6. S/P cerebrovascular event
7. Reparatory failure/arrest
8. S/P Cardiac Cath Lab percutaneous intervention
9. Trauma

• Obtainment of lab specimens from patient via:

1. Obtaining blood specimens from venipuncture
2. Obtaining blood specimens from central venous lines
3. Obtaining blood specimens from pulmonary arterial lines
4. Obtaining blood specimens from arterial lines
5. Obtaining sputum specimens
6. Obtaining urine specimens
7. Obtaining superficial tissue specimens

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Schedule may consist of weekends, holidays and shift work. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Long periods of a stationary position, traversing, positioning self for heavy traversing and bending are required. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and antineoplastic agents. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently.

Qualifications

One (1) year of nursing experience required.
