Provides professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. The RN III works in a capacity that requires advanced training, education, certification and/or leadership. Additionally, RN III’s may have program administration and staffing development responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs Essential Job Functions from the Registered Nurse II job description at an advanced level. Assumes additional duties (examples listed below):

Utilizes advanced training and education to provide complex nursing care/specialty care. Proficient to work within scope of nursing certification that includes, but is not limited to lactation consulting, advanced wound/ostomy care, care/case management certification, diabetes educator or asthma educator certification.

Serves as a nurse leader by assisting management team with hiring, motivating and engaging clinical staff.

Identifies and targets at-risk patients who require extensive care to improve health outcomes.

May conduct visits outside of the practice for defined populations. This may include the hospital setting, skilled nursing facilities or the patient’s home.

Collaborates with office leadership on the development and review of office/program clinical workflows to meet the needs of the patient population.

Supports the development of divisional clinical protocols.

Develops and leads quality initiatives and performance improvement projects specific to the patient population, practice or division/specialty. May achieve Green Belt training and apply skills for continuous improvement.

Assists in identifying issues and provides solution suggestions.

Serves as a team leader in the absence of a manager and may support management duties.

Performs/Assists with any projects, pilots, initiatives or duties as assigned and works within scope of RN licensure.

Uses resources efficiently. If applicable, responsible for ongoing professional development – maintains appropriate licensure/certification and continuing education credentials, participates in available learning opportunities.

Performance that meets or exceeds IHA CARES Values expectation as outlined in IHA Performance Review document, relative to position.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: BSN strongly preferred or graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program. Advanced certification/training relevant to specialty (e.g., AAACN, IBCLC) or graduate degree preferred.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: Valid, unrestricted RN license in the State of Michigan, Valid CPR certification.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3 years of clinical experience in ambulatory care or specialty, and/or demonstrated competency in IHA’s RN II position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

Demonstrated competency in obtaining accurate patient vital statistics (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, etc.) and patient health history. Proficient in medical terminology. Proficiency in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including but not limited to, electronic medical records, email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required while performing the essential functions of the job. Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette. Ability to speak before groups of people, either in-person or virtually. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; displays courteous and friendly demeanor. Ability to work effectively with various levels of organizational members and diverse populations including IHA staff, providers, patients, vendors, family members, outside customers and community groups. Ability to cross-train in other areas of practice in order to achieve smooth flow of all operations. Good organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities, time constraints and ever-changing medical situations. Ability to exercise sound judgement and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform mathematical calculations needed during the course of performing basic job duties, i.e.: calculating proper dosages for immunizations. Knowledge of the compliance aspects of clinical care and patient privacy and best practices in medical office operations. Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner. Ability to travel to other office/practice sites and meeting and training locations. Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period.
