Description

$5,000 SIGNON BONUS

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. Is able to triage safely, rapidly and accurately, every patient that enters the emergency care system. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with Emergency Department physicians about changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Collects current symptoms, as well as detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Rapidly and accurately assigns triage categories: Emergent, Urgent and Non-Urgent.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Revises standardized ACI (Aftercare Instructions) based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family in included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians and co-workers.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible and organized. Ability to function well under stressful situations.
  • Acts with integrity, treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Holds self and others accountable; admits mistakes and learns from them.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in patient teaching and plan of care upon transfer or discharge from the department.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Assists supervisor in the development, implementation and evaluation of QI indicators to improve patient outcome and work environment.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Demonstrates competency in the management of assaultive patients and application of restraints. Has completed Physical Assault and Response Training.
  • Reports any suspected abuse to appreciate agencies.

Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state federal and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Completes in-services and returns in timely fashion.
  • Attends staff meeting, reads and returns staff meeting minutes.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision and core values of the hospital.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Current state licensed Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • Two or more years of recent critical care or ED experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of critical care course or emergency care course within one year.
  • BLS certification.
  • ABLS certification.
  • ACLS certification within six months.
  • Required TNCC
  • Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification
  • PALS or ENPC certification within six months.

WNH has on-site respiratory therapy services and a clinical laboratory. Outpatient services include audiology, cardiac rehabilitation, wound care, diagnostic imaging, infusion therapy, laboratory, rehabilitation services, and many other diagnostic and therapeutic services.

The hospital provides primary care through seven rural health clinics in Cowley, Elk, and Chautauqua counties and an occupational health program to assist local business and industry. WNH has also developed cooperative arrangements with other providers for cancer treatment and renal dialysis.

Specialty clinics include cardiology, orthopedics, podiatry, interventional radiology, rheumatology, oncology, nephrology, neurosurgery, ENT, pain management, pediatrics, pulmonology, and urology.

The non-profit community general hospital is locally managed and financially self-sufficient, relying entirely on patient revenue and philanthropic support.
