Job Description

IU Ball Memorial Hospital’s Perioperative Services department is committed to delivering exceptional surgical care through highly skilled teams and continuous professional development. We are seeking a dedicated Perioperative Education Coordinator to support the ongoing education and competency of our perioperative staff. This role is vital in ensuring our team remains current with the latest surgical practices, safety protocols, and regulatory standards, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and staff satisfaction.

Position: Part-Time (.8 FTE, 32 hours/week)

Schedule: Core schedule Monday–Friday, Days with Evening Availability as Needed (~1x per week)

Provides expert support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs tailored specifically to Perioperative Services at IU Ball Memorial. Collaborates with surgical, anesthesia, nursing, and support staff to ensure competency, compliance, and ongoing professional development within the perioperative environment. Supports operational activities by partnering with multidisciplinary team members, subject matter experts, multimedia developers, and learning management specialists. Facilitates a culture of continuous learning and improvement for perioperative team members and external providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based educational curricula and training strategies specific to perioperative care, including surgical nursing, anesthesia, sterile processing, and other OR support services.
  • Coordinate educational activities aligned with departmental goals, regulatory requirements, and best practices in perioperative care.
  • Support onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing education for perioperative staff, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with perioperative leadership and other hospital departments to identify educational needs and tailor content for diverse learner audiences.
  • Facilitate learning environments, including in-person sessions, simulations, and online modules, ensuring engagement and knowledge retention.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of perioperative protocols, technological advancements, and regulatory changes impacting perioperative education.

Qualifications:

  • Requires 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience. OR/Perioperative experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires current organizational-specified CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
  • Requires knowledge of adult learning principles, regulatory requirements, and educational program management.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and software applications. v2
  • May require the ability to travel to within state of Indiana.
