The CVICU manages:
Nurses in the CVICU care for patients supported with LVADs, RVADs, Impella devices, Intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), ECMO, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Additional responsibilities include management of mechanical ventilation, multiple vasoactive and inotropic infusions, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, temporary pacing, and targeted temperature management.
The targeted nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2, reflecting the high level of acuity and complexity. The CVICU is an AACN Beacon Award–recognized unit and a designated ELSO Gold Center of Excellence, highlighting a commitment to exceptional patient outcomes, nursing excellence, and evidence-based, interdisciplinary care. The unit offers exposure to transplant medicine, advanced ECMO management, and cutting-edge cardiovascular critical care.
The RN Clinician (SS) is an experienced healthcare professional with a strong understanding of patient care for a specific population. Using clinical knowledge, research, and experience, they adapt to changing situations and personalize care based on the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care.
