The Oncology Nurse Coordinator functions interdependently with the physician to coordinate independent advanced assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the care for a select group of patients in collaboration with physicians and surgeons, patient/family and other ancillary departments and outside agencies. This position requires population specific competencies. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

The Oncology Nurse Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collects and evaluates data including history and physical examination, lab data, diagnostic studies, and consultations
  • Coordinates treatment plans for oncology patient and family (including but not limited to chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments)
  • Monitors, evaluates, and reports laboratory tests and identifies complications and interventions related to disease process and treatment.
  • Provides education related to disease process and discharge education to the patient and family
  • Coordinates continued care in home, outpatient, or inpatient setting.
  • Assists with nursing research and collaborative research with physician related activities, including gathering of data and analyzing results
  • Works in conjunction with the Business Office to coordinate financial aspects of patient care
  • Works with treatment room for infusion therapy and radiation oncology department for treatment plans and scheduling

For ICP:

  • Coordinates treatment plans for patients and family (including but not limited to therapy and/or treatments).
  • Works with all departments for treatment plans and scheduling.

The Oncology Nurse Coordinator reports to the Nurse Manager.

Potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, chemicals. Must follow standard precautions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE:•5 years clinical experience•3 years Critical Care LPN or Paramedic experience may be substituted for 3 years of RN experience EDUCATION:•Bachelors degree in Nursing may be substituted for 2 years of RN experience LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:•RN (Registered Nurse) Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Oklahoma or current multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) member state•BLS (Basic Life Support) Issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 30 days of hire PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE:• ICU, medical-surgical, and/or specific functional experience LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:•Oncology Nursing Society Certification
