Job Description:

Job Summary: The RN Clinical Mentor will be assigned to each Critical Care unit to provide education, support and direction to staff at the bedside.Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities: Serves as a clinical resource for staff within the Critical Care Division. Collaborates with other departments as needed in order to oversee the educational needs of staff, including but not limited to, in-service, competencies, bedside training and classroom training.

Provides support to new employees at the unit level. Assigns a preceptor to each new employee. Follows up with preceptors and employees to ensure the employees are receiving what they need to successfully perform high quality patient care. Identifies and resolves any issues identified.

Responsible for and facilitates the Skills Fairs for Critical Care nurses and techs.

Assesses, plans, develops content, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational needs that are appropriate for the target population of each Critical Care unit. This includes bedside training, in-services, classroom training, etc.

Assists in completing and/or creating and implementing action plans to address areas of concern as needed.

Assists Critical Care team members on preventive measures to avoid adverse events such as preventing CAUTIs, CLABSIs, pressure injuries, falls, etc. and improves quality outcomes.

Participates in most hospital-wide committees (e.g., Zero CAUTI, Zero Pressure) as the Critical Care subject matter expert.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing (must obtain within 3 years). 3 plus years of related hospital experience. Current JPS recognized BLS, ACLS, and EKG required in Critical Care Division and must be maintained throughout employment. Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Preferred Qualifications: 2 plus years of experience in process improvement initiatives by participating in process improvement teams focusing on quality. Specialty Certification in area of expertise (CCRN, PCCN, or CMSRN). Current JPS recognized BLS and ACLS Instructor for Critical Care Division and must be maintained throughout employment.
