Position Summary

The RN Clinic, CV Surgery provides specialized nursing care to patients receiving pre- and post-operative cardiovascular surgery services within the outpatient clinic. This role supports surgeons and advanced practice providers by conducting detailed patient assessments, preparing patients for procedures, coordinating diagnostic testing, and monitoring recovery progress. Working collaboratively with the cardiovascular surgery team and clinic staff, the RN helps ensure care is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with clinical protocols and organizational standards. The position functions within a supportive, specialty-focused environment where communication, teamwork, and coordinated workflows are essential. Through patient education on surgical preparation, wound care, medications, and long-term cardiovascular health, the RN Clinic, CV Surgery contributes to positive patient outcomes and safe, well-organized clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, review cardiac and surgical histories, obtain vital signs, and prepare patients for provider evaluations or pre-operative appointments.
  • Assist with in-clinic procedures, medication administration, wound assessments, and post-operative care needs in accordance with established protocols.
  • Coordinate and schedule diagnostic studies such as cardiac imaging, lab work, and pre-surgical testing to support timely surgical planning.
  • Provide individualized patient education on pre-operative preparation, recovery expectations, incision care, symptom monitoring, and follow-up instructions.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and care plans accurately and promptly within the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, advanced practice providers, and clinic staff to ensure smooth patient flow and consistent communication across cardiovascular surgery services.

QualificationsLicenses and Certifications Required

  • Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.
  • CPR required within orientation period.
  • Ongoing Point of Care certifications as required for department required within orientation period.

Educational Requirements

  • RN program as evidenced by licensure.
  • BSN preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • One year or more of professional nursing experience preferred.
  • Clinic experience preferred.
  • Coding experience preferred.

Special Skills or Training Requirements

  • May include travel to satellites.
  • Computer use.
  • Trinity community clinics draw and package lab tests.

Physical Requirements

The RN Clinic, CV Surgery frequently walks, stands, and moves between exam rooms while assisting patients and supporting clinical procedures. The position involves bending, reaching, and occasional lifting or positioning of patients or equipment. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are required to perform accurate assessments, assist with wound care, handle surgical supplies, and document care activities.

Environmental Requirements

Work is performed in an outpatient surgical specialty clinic with exposure to clinical instruments, sterile supplies, and routine patient care activities. The role may involve contact with infectious agents, bodily fluids, cleaning solutions, and medical devices used in cardiovascular care. The RN must adhere to safety procedures, infection-prevention standards, and PPE requirements while adapting to varying clinic workloads and occasional travel to satellite locations as assigned.
