The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) Child Diagnostic Unit (CDU). The CDU is a 10-bed unit that treats children ages 2 to 12 and represents a new approach in treatment for children with mental illness. The unit takes a multidisciplinary approach, relying on specialists in psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work, and education as well as speech, language and occupational therapy. The staff uses a unique approach involving Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) while working with the children to identify their individual needs based on how they interact with others. Once the patient is discharged, the institute staff will continue to follow the child to integrate the treatment plan with community-based caregivers.
The RN delivers nursing care for patients in within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and adheres to institutional policies, procedures and standards. The RN is responsible to adhere to the standard of care defined by UAMS, ANA, and Standards for specialty patient population with support and mentoring by other team members.
