Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Emergency Department serves as a distinguished Level I trauma center, offering comprehensive care for a wide spectrum of medical emergencies, ranging from critical cases like heart attacks and strokes to common ailments such as flu and viral infections. Our team comprises over 30 board-certified emergency physicians, skilled nurse practitioners, experienced emergency nurses, sexual assault and forensic nurse examiners, social workers, case managers, and a dedicated cadre of specialized professionals.
The Emergency Department has a storied history as one of the nation's pioneering Emergency Medicine training programs. Today, we continue to shape the future of emergency care through groundbreaking patient care research and resident education. Our innovations, such as the widely adopted HEART pathway for chest pain risk assessment, impact patients' lives daily. We've led the way in observational care since 2005, with a dedicated Clinical Decision Unit, ensuring top-notch medication considerations through dedicated PharmD coverage in the ED. Additionally, our nationally recognized resident education environment fosters learning not only for emergency medicine residents but also for nurses, paramedics, and nursing assistants alongside our medical students.
